POKEMON (seriously gotta catch 'em all)

I have looked at Pokemon because it is a show I have been obsessed with since I can remember! It was created by Satoshi Tajiri in 1996 and was published by Nintendo. It originally began as being hand drawn but in the more modern episodes there is more digital work incorporated into it.

The purpose I think it to bring to life the original video game even further and open the doors a bit more for the possible audience. For example, those who now watch the show but don't play the game, may become encouraged to try it out and vice versa.  Even though it uses the typical Anime style, it is a very distinctive show due to the story line. After years of watching this I can say that it does take into consideration the 12 Principles of Animation. For example when a character is showing a particular emotion their eyes or mouths often become larger to the point where they are quite unrecognisable. Also the staging is often changed to draw the viewer's attention to something in particular, for example the way the characters are positioned in the image on the bottom left. As usual the characters who need to be the main focus of attention are brought to the front. I think the audience for Pokemon is very broad, it is suitable for children, teens and adults. Its one of those things that a lot of people don't grow out of!
